General Question

Am I the type of person who is suited for a career in academia?
Do I want to spend the rest of my career doing research, as well as reading and talking about it?
Do I have a strong enough academic background in order to apply and be accepted by the program?
Is now the time for me to pursue a Ph.D.?
What are my goals after completing the Ph.D.?

Program Questions

How many faculty are working with students?
How many faculty members are doing research in areas related to my own interests?
What opportunities are there to work with a variety of faculty and to be exposed to different approaches in research (modeling, work with data, experiment design)?
Am I technically prepared to learn to do research in this field?
Most Ph.D. students change their vision of research and many change their intended concentration area after joining the program and being exposed to a variety of research styles. Does my program of choice offer flexibility needed to do so?
Is there financial support for students to attend academic conferences to present their own research?
What opportunities are there for students to participate in colloquia, both as an attendee and as a presenter?
What is the department's placement record? What types of jobs do graduates take and where?
Finally, how well do graduates of the program perform in the long term (contributing to the field through publication, the practice of management, and earning tenure)?

"Your sponsor (Institution, Universities) might consider below issues"

1) What recruiting schools highly value
Your Institution
Your advisor, committee, and references
Your CV
Publication, R&R at FT45 journals
high-reputation co-authors
exchange in North-America
methodological skills and cool database
awards (AoM, EGOS, Informs, ...)
good teaching grades
the pipeline of working papers that fit the school
some conferences (ex: CCC for strat/ OB/ entr)
organization of a symposium at AoM

2) What recruiting schools valueless
Publications not in English
Publications in no-FT45 journals
Book/ Book chapters (unless in great books)
"Under Review" papers (sometimes a good signal)
Conference presentations
The fact that you vaguely know "famous people" (i.e., networking is not shaking hands at cocktails or harassing scholars by email)
Post-docs in non-top-schools and not leading to publications or R&Rs
Inappropriate teaching experience (too much, not graded, unknown institutions, wrong topic)

Literature Review 작성법

1) Fit with Journal
Engage in the ongoing conversation of that Journal

2) Closely link with RQ
Motivate the research question
Identify the literature gap to fill, explain why the gap should be filled
The literature review should be tightly supporting your research question only selected from a few literature that are most relevant to your RQ should appear
There should be a tight link between RQ and literature review: the literature review should not be merely description but should provide insights by integrating multiple strands of research

3) Coverage of literature matters
Coverage shows how well you understand the topic of interest
You should cite seminal articles and articles particularly relevant to your RQ
Pay special attention to hi-caliber journals and recent articles

4) Quality of writing matters
In the literature review, structure and content are mutually dependent
You should bundle literature in a way to support your RQ
RQ should be aimed at reconciling mixed findings in the literature (pro-groups vs. against-groups)
Have your colleague to review your paper before submission
Make sure your ideas are clear and well constructed
